Loch Ness Monster Skull
This 'Nessie' skull was constructed as a promotional prop for the Steve Alten novel 'The Loch' (Tsunami Books). Skull concept is based on the theory that the Loch Ness Monster could possible be an evolutionary mutation of a giant eel species. Skeletal form was based on illustrations by forensic artist and researcher Bill McDonald. Skulls from various species of eel were also used for anatomical comparison and sculpting details.
The final skull shown was originally sculpted in plasticene clay, molded in latex rubber, and finally cast in fiberglass and composite resins. The final color was achieved by combining brush painting and airbrushed acrylic inks. The final skull measures 6 Feet Long x 3 Feet Wide x 3-1/2 Feet High.
Special thanks to Spencer Kane, Rowan Burkam, Rosario Kihl, Solana Kihl, and Levi Coffelt for their dedicated assistance in producing the final skull replica
